Power-off, full descale, sanitize, verify. Done right means done thoroughly.

Power down & empty
Safely cycle off the unit and remove all existing ice. Drain the reservoir and disconnect water supply.

Disassemble
Remove the ice bin, dispenser components, water distribution tubes, and (when accessible) the evaporator plate.

Descale
Food-safe nickel-safe descaler dissolves mineral and scale buildup on the evaporator plate and water lines. This is why your ice was cloudy.

Sanitize
EPA-registered, food-safe sanitizer kills biofilm, slime, and any pink algae that's taken hold. We rinse with clean water until residue is gone.

Filter & reconnect
Replace the water filter if you have one on hand. Reconnect water, run a flush cycle, and discard the first 2 to 3 batches of ice.

Verify clear ice
Wait for the first new batch and confirm it's clear, hard, and tastes neutral. We don't leave until it does.

How much does ice machine cleaning cost in Coeur d'Alene?
Ignite charges a flat $310 for a residential ice machine cleaning across Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, and Spokane Valley. Heavily-mineralized units (Coeur d'Alene's hard water gets some units pretty bad) may need a second descale, quoted only if needed.
Why is my ice cloudy?
Cloudy ice is almost always mineral buildup on the evaporator plate. The plate has to freeze water in thin layers, and minerals trapped between layers create the cloudiness. Descaling restores clarity. Coeur d'Alene's hard water makes this faster than soft-water regions.
How often should a residential ice machine be cleaned?

Is the slime in my ice bin dangerous?
Pink slime is Serratia marcescens, a bacteria that's not usually severely dangerous but is gross and can cause minor illness in immunocompromised people. Black or green flecks are mold. Either way it's a clear signal that the unit needs immediate professional cleaning.
Do you replace the water filter too?
If you have a replacement filter on hand, yes. We don't carry stock for every model since they vary, but if you have one we'll install it. Otherwise we'll tell you the exact part number to order for next time.
How long does the cleaning take?
About 2 to 2.5 hours including a flush cycle and the first-batch verification. You can leave us to it. We wait for the unit to produce clear ice before we close out the visit.
