What did this Spokane oven look like before we cleaned it?
This week I cleaned a Bertazzoni range in a home near Manito Golf and Country Club on the South Hill. A brown grease film coated the inside of the door glass so thickly you couldn't see in. Both racks and the slides had baked-on grease. Spatter ran up the side walls, and a grease stain spread across the oven floor.

How do you deep clean an oven?
We clean every part by hand, in this order:
- Protect the kitchen. A moving blanket goes down, and floors and counters get covered.
- Pull the racks and slides and degrease them separately.
- Clean the walls, floor, fan cover, and door with food-safe degreasers.
- Razor-scrape the glass and any baked-on spots.
- Wipe down the stainless exterior, knobs, and control panel, then put everything back.
When we finished, you could see through the door again, and the racks had their chrome shine back.
Why not just run the self-clean cycle?
Self-clean heats the oven far past cooking temperature for hours to burn residue into ash. On a luxury range, that heat puts real stress on door gaskets, electronics, and the enamel. It also leaves the racks, knobs, and exterior dirty. Most manuals tell you to take chrome racks out first, because the heat discolors them. Hand cleaning gets everything without the stress.
